With tools like ChatGPT, we can even engage in conversations with AI that offer helpful insights.
However, the reality of our daily lives reveals a troubling side. Many of us find ourselves lost in endless news feeds, mindless scrolling through trivial stories, or spending countless hours on platforms like Instagram and TikTok. These activities often lead to social anxiety, feelings of fatigue, and a sense of disconnection.
What’s happening, friends? Why do these incredible technologies lead to so many challenges in our lives?
I’ve come to realize that the Internet and technology can serve as either allies or adversaries. To harness the full potential of the Internet, consider these beneficial activities: acquiring new skills, creating content, seeking answers to your inquiries, participating in online courses, or earning income. Engaging in these pursuits can lead to personal growth and fulfillment.
Conversely, if you wish to develop a dependency on the Internet, you might find yourself: watching amusing videos, endlessly scrolling, consuming frivolous content, gaming for hours, or being distracted by constant notifications. While the list could be extensive, these points highlight the most significant aspects from my perspective.
It’s essential to understand that activities that don’t contribute to your growth or creativity can drain your energy. The primary drivers of this addiction include: companies profiting from their content and the rise of short-form content on platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
To elaborate on companies, many utilize analytical tools to monitor our behavior, aiming to understand what captivates us most. Their main objectives include boosting metrics such as average time spent on their applications and daily active users.
Now, envision that platforms like TikTok or Instagram employ various psychological tactics to keep you engaged for hours on end. If you become engrossed during this time, you risk neglecting family interactions, conversations with friends, household responsibilities, and other meaningful activities. Ultimately, while these companies profit from your engagement, your time may be squandered.
The choice lies with you: do you wish to be a passive consumer, manipulated by these large corporations, or do you aspire to evolve into a better version of yourself? Would you prefer to gain advantages from the Internet or succumb to dependence?
