Chapter 1: Technology Updates for May 2024

This month, we're excited to share various tech stories while introducing new authors who have joined our publications.

Dear writers and readers, welcome to June! I apologize for the lack of updates in the past couple of months regarding Technology Hits. Due to the demands of other publications, I have not been able to focus on this important newsletter, and I regret it. Thankfully, our diligent editors managed the publication during my absence, and we’ve seen an influx of new writers and readers. I will introduce these new voices at the end of this post, encouraging you to explore their stories and follow their journeys.

Recently, I sent out a newsletter for ILLUMINATION, our largest publication. We’ve made some adjustments to the submission guidelines, which I encourage you to review to save time and space in this post.

For those unfamiliar with my work, I am the chief editor of the ILLUMINATION Integration publications on Medium.com. Our lineup includes ILLUMINATION, ILLUMINATION-Curated, ILLUMINATION'S MIRROR, ILLUMINATION Book Chapters, Technology Hits, SYNERGY, Readers' Hope, Illumination Videos and Podcasts, Illumination Gaming, the Lampshade of Illumination, Nutrition, EUPHORIA, and ILLUMINATION's Blog, with additional details in the onboarding pack.

We are thrilled to announce two new publications: ILLUMINATION's Health & Science, spearheaded by Mike Broadly, DHSc, and ILLUMINATION's Integrated Healthcare, founded by Dr. Adam Tabriz. Dr. Tabriz has also graciously agreed to serve as an editor for ILLUMINATION and has created a new account, Adam Ray Tabriz, MD, to enhance our publication efforts. This means we now cover both technology and science, reaching a broader audience.

The ILLUMINATION Integrated Publications are diverse, inclusive, and collaborative, supporting over 30,000 contributors. Our writers range from novices to seasoned professionals, all providing valuable and engaging content for our readers. I recently shared our newsletter detailing our progress and future plans. For those curious about my dual accounts, I write this editorial from my tech-focused account, Dr. Mehmet Yildiz (Tech), while my primary account centers on health, wellness, science, self-improvement, and life lessons. My schedule is quite busy, as I manage the activities of 153 volunteer editors worldwide alongside my full-time commitments and our Slack workspace.

One reason I haven’t shared as many technology stories from my main account is that over 80% of my followers are primarily interested in health, mental well-being, lifestyle, science, spirituality, mindfulness, longevity, and self-improvement. I am grateful that my primary account has attracted over 100K followers.

Previously, this account was utilized by my publication amplifiers to showcase stories from contributors. However, in collaboration with the curation team, we have now integrated curators and amplifiers into a cohesive unit, with the ILLUMINATION-Curators account serving as the main hub for these efforts.

This transition has allowed me to re-brand this secondary account to better serve the interests of my readers focused on technology, business, and leadership topics. As part of my commitment to the tech and business community, I established Technology Hits in 2020. Despite its growth, my extensive responsibilities with ILLUMINATION (supporting 30K writers) have limited my ability to dedicate the attention this specialized publication deserves.

By utilizing this new account, I intend to elevate Technology Hits by amplifying exceptional stories as a writer, reader, editor, and curator. Through this platform, I aim to present tech-related content to a broader audience, leveraging my extensive network. My vision is to assemble a diverse group of writers, each offering unique insights into technology, to craft compelling stories.

With access to a vast community of writers across Medium and beyond, our potential is limitless. This publication has been thoughtfully designed with our audience in mind, employing Design Thinking principles.

From this process, seven key roles or personas have emerged in the technology sphere: technicians, philosophers, entrepreneurs, entertainers, artists, storytellers, and visionary leaders. I have elaborated on the benefits of engaging with Technology Hits.

In September, we updated our submission guidelines to clarify our expectations for writers and inform readers about what to anticipate from Technology Hits on Medium.com.

Technology Hits: Submission Guidelines 2023

During the holiday season, I personally onboarded new writers while our administrators were on leave. I provided guidance to these new contributors based on my experiences, which I won’t repeat in this bulletin. However, here are some guiding stories that new writers can review:

I also conduct interviews with influential writers who are leaders in their respective fields. You can find these interviews in the attached collection, which allows you to connect with these notable authors. If you would like to be interviewed, feel free to reach out to me.

As a boost nominator, I encourage writers of exceptional stories to submit their work to ILLUMINATION-Curated, a formal boost-nominating publication on Medium.com. I would be pleased to review and nominate qualifying pieces. The selection criteria are stringent, as Medium curators typically boost only the most well-crafted, impactful, and relatable stories.

I provide guidance on boosting to enhance our writers' chances of success. Recently, I addressed frequently asked questions about the boosting process.

Editors have also interviewed me regarding boosting, and I’ve shared my insights in their sessions. Here is our latest compilation of boosted stories.

Additionally, I guide writers on compiling their boosted or significant works to share with non-members, thereby attracting more contributors to our platform. Here’s a template you might find useful. Our editors and curators also promote non-boosted stories.

As previously mentioned, only about 1% of stories are boosted by Medium, yet we continue to publish thousands of excellent stories that delight our dedicated readers.
