Overcoming Fears: What Would You Conquer?
Written on
Chapter 1: The Impact of Fear
Fear can be a significant barrier in our lives. In this segment of my 'What If…?' series, inspired by a fascinating set of Scenario Cards from my husband, we delve into the question: What if you could conquer a fear that has haunted you for years?
This set consists of three categories (self, the world, and life) and is designed by psychologists to spark deep, meaningful discussions. I wholeheartedly recommend them!
Section 1.1: Personal Reflections on Fear
If I were to choose, I'd say that my fear of heights stands out. This fear has lingered for as long as I can recall, and I suspect it stems from my mother's anxious nature. She always worried about various things, and I believe that her nervousness has influenced me. Heights and I have never been friends.
For instance, the thought of bungee jumping or skydiving fills me with dread. Even rock climbing is off the table for me. A particularly vivid memory is when I experienced a panic attack during a visit to a viewpoint along the Oregon coast, overlooking the beaches of a charming town called Manzanita.
The viewpoint was quite elevated, and the beach seemed miles below. After years of passing that location while vacationing on the coast, I had always managed to glance down at the view. Yet, during that specific moment, I was overwhelmed with anxiety, rendering me unable to exit the car or even glance toward the vista. My husband, perplexed and somewhat irritated, couldn’t comprehend my inability to move while he went off to explore and snap photos.
In summary, I wish I could overcome my fear of heights because it truly detracts from my enjoyment of life.
Subsection 1.1.1: What About You?
Now, I turn the question to you: What fear would you like to eliminate from your life?
