Innovative iOS Shortcut Powered by ChatGPT Will Amaze You

Written on

This groundbreaking iOS shortcut harnesses the power of ChatGPT to streamline various tasks in your life.

  • Have you ever wished to create a custom workout playlist just by asking Siri?
  • Curious about receiving a summary of an article simply by sharing its link?
  • Ever thought Siri could plan your perfect vacation by examining your calendar?

You're only moments away from turning these ideas into reality.

I've previously discussed a ChatGPT-enhanced Apple shortcut.

This earlier version was quite basic, as it simply:

  • Accepted your text input,
  • Sent it to ChatGPT,
  • Provided you with a response.

While it was useful, it may not have been overwhelmingly impressive. However, the shortcut I'm about to introduce will certainly astound you.

Before sharing the shortcut, there are a few requirements.

Please pay attention, and consider investing a small amount in OpenAI.

This shortcut utilizes the OpenAI Developer API, which is very affordable—likely under $1–2 per month even with frequent use.

To set up a paid account, visit the Billing Overview page of OpenAI and select 'Set up paid account' to enable pay-as-you-go pricing.

Once that's done, head over to the API Keys page, create one, and copy it.

Now, let's get the shortcut.

First, a big thanks to Federico Viticci for showcasing the 'S-GPT' shortcut on MacStories.

  • Download S-GPT, the main shortcut, here.
  • Download S-GPT Encoder, the necessary helper shortcut, here.

When installing S-GPT, it will ask for the API key. Paste the one you've just copied, and you're all set.

Note:

S-GPT operates using gpt-3.5-turbo.

If you have access to gpt-4, which offers enhanced capabilities, you can switch to it by modifying the shortcut.

How to Activate the Shortcut?

There are two methods to trigger it:

  • By activating Siri and saying "SGPT." You can then give your prompt through voice.
  • Alternatively, you can add the S-GPT shortcut (not the Encoder) to your Home Screen for easy access. You can tap it anytime to activate it, and then either type or dictate your prompt.

I personally prefer the second option, as Siri sometimes misinterprets "SGPT," leading to frustration.

What Sets S-GPT Apart from Other ChatGPT-Enhanced Shortcuts?

  • It retains all your previous prompts and provides follow-up responses, creating a conversational experience.
  • You can download your chat history at the conclusion of each session. (Translation is also possible!)
  • It requests access to Apple services like Music, clipboard, and Calendar to personalize your experience (ensure you grant access).

Here’s What You Can Achieve with S-GPT

#### #1. All ChatGPT Functions

If you've used Siri Plus, consider uninstalling it immediately, as S-GPT encompasses everything Siri Plus could do (and more!).

Try asking it: - Compose a Twitter thread about UI design. - Write a crime thriller with surprising twists. - Generate interview questions for a spiritual leader. - Respond to a blog comment about climate change in a friendly manner. - Suggest names for a new fruit juice venture. - Translate a phrase into English. - Motivate you to exercise when you're feeling lazy. - Debug a snippet of code. - Create an image prompt for a blog post titled “Here’s A ChatGPT-Powered Shortcut for iOS That Will Blow Your Mind.” - Explain rocket science in simple terms for a child. - Organize your day's schedule based on specified activities.

You might already know these functionalities, but here’s where S-GPT truly shines.

#### #2. Article Summaries (by links!)

(1) Type “Summarise this: ” followed by some text:

Once you click Done, you'll receive a concise summary.

You can also specify that the summary be under 100 or 200 words.

(2) Input an article link

Just provide a link without needing to type “Summarise this.” S-GPT will automatically fetch the article and summarize it for you.

Feel free to provide multiple links for summarization.

Amazing, right?

(3) If you have text or a link copied, just say:

Alternatively, say “Summarise the text in the clipboard.”

Remember: Use the word clipboard as a trigger. Without it, S-GPT won't know to access your clipboard.

Instead of saying “... that I’ve copied,” say “... in the clipboard.”

(4) To summarize text from an image:

  • Use the phrase “Live text” as a trigger.
  • Select the image.

Text from the image will be locally extracted and sent to ChatGPT (the image itself isn’t shared). The summary will then be provided.

Cool, right?

#### #3. Music Recommendations and Playlist Creation

You can ask S-GPT for song suggestions based on your preferences (genre, year, artist, etc.).

After you click Done, you can adjust the song list as needed.

If you're satisfied with the suggestions, instruct S-GPT to create a playlist (the trigger phrase).

Provide a name for your playlist.

Wait a moment, and once you receive this confirmation:

Head over to Apple Music playlists to enjoy your new tunes.

Mind-blowing!

Did you know?

You can simplify the process by directly asking it to “create a playlist of X songs that are...”

More related prompts include: - I'm in the mood for emo music. Provide a list of emo songs released after 2000, grouped by year and sorted by song title. - Create a playlist with the top 15 songs about road trips. - Compile a playlist with 20 popular songs by Oasis and Blue. - Suggest a playlist featuring the top 15 songs by boygenius members. - Make a playlist of 25 mellow indie rock songs from 2000 to 2010, sorted by release year.

#### #4. Assistance with Scheduling

If you need help planning your next vacation or managing appointments, ask S-GPT.

For example, say:

Note: The phrase my schedule is essential for this function.

S-GPT will analyze your calendar to suggest the best dates for your vacation.

#### #5. Exporting Your Chat

S-GPT retains all conversation history within a session. To access it, simply say “Export chat” at the end of your discussion.

Here are the options available:

Notably, you can even translate the entire conversation!

Let me showcase a preview with a joke.

Isn’t that impressive? (Not the joke—the feature!)

In Conclusion

So, there you have it—your new superpower.

S-GPT performs equally well on macOS and is also compatible with watchOS, although some features may be limited due to the lack of clipboard or browser support.

I'm confident this shortcut has even more potential uses than I've covered. If I discover any additional functionalities, I’ll keep you informed!

And if you find anything new, please share in the comments!
