Chapter 1: The Pocket of Days
Be fully engaged in your current moments before they fade into memories.

In those vibrant days of youth, when my curls danced in the sunlight, life was a blend of chaos and joy. I was a child with wide eyes and carefree ears, collecting experiences like treasures in my pocket—alongside a tarnished penny, a sticky piece of candy, and a comforting clump of dirt. These were the cherished tokens of my adventures as I navigated through muddy paths and grassy fields, where every day felt like the longest summer.
As I embraced those endless moments, I moved freely past the pond, laughing at the playful tadpoles still content with their algae snacks. Meanwhile, strange new limbs began to emerge, bringing with them a different kind of life—one that sought more than just the green threads of algae. My world shifted as I grew, and I lost touch with the simple joys of childhood, now chasing after more complex desires.
My days began to conspire in the background, their sharp edges digging into my existence, hinting at change. Then came that pivotal moment—a shy first kiss, followed by obligations and responsibilities that filled my life with urgency. The sweet innocence of my past started to decay, and the trophies I had once held dear began to fade, leaving only memories of what once was.
Though the dirt clump remains, it gradually crumbles, a reminder of lost dreams and fading wishes. My days, once vibrant, now elude me, blending into the tapestry of life where my own essence lies buried beneath the dust of time. Yet, I remain anchored in the present, aware of the fleeting nature of each moment.
As I search for the remnants of those past days, I find myself lost in nostalgia, yearning for what can never return. But today is different. I choose to let go of my longing for the past and embrace the present. I may be older, my face marked by time, but I still seek out the splashes of joy and the mess of life, even if I struggle to find them amidst the mundane.
Now, my day carries me through the grind—work, obligations, and the complexities of adult life. I navigate through meetings devoid of childhood sweetness, feeling trapped in a cycle that leads to exhaustion. However, upon returning home, the softness of my daughter’s curls reminds me of joy and freedom. I am lifted out of my routine, yearning to see the world anew.
I dream of simpler pleasures—the scent of honeysuckle, the taste of sweet nectar, and the thrill of play. Yet, the demands of the day pull me back, encasing me once more with trivial distractions—shiny coins, keys to unknown doors, and wallets filled with cards that signify my adult responsibilities.
Yet, I resolve that tomorrow will be different. I will emerge with renewed spirit—softer curls and brighter eyes. No longer will I be confined by the weight of my days. I will reclaim my time, allowing for play and creativity to flourish. Yes, tomorrow, I will once again pocket my joys alongside sticky candy and dirt from my adventures. I will explore my surroundings and revel in the beauty of life's mess.
