<Transformative Insights from Life Coaching: 7 Key Lessons>

Written on

I have a habit of gifting books—it's my go-to for almost any occasion. Reading has profoundly influenced my life, shaping me into a better version of myself. However, I've come to realize that books alone have limitations.

During the isolation of the pandemic, I found a silver lining: the impact of personalized coaching. I had long believed that my mantra of "I can do anything" would suffice, but I soon discovered that I needed more than just self-guidance through reading.

Investing in a coach expedited my growth journey. Reflecting on it now, I wish I had taken this step sooner; the lessons I’ve learned could have accelerated my progress years ago.

Books and one-on-one coaching complement each other; both are essential. Interestingly, I chose to invest in coaching while many of my colleagues faced job losses. It was a daunting decision, but I trusted it would yield significant returns—and it did.

This article aims to illustrate how coaching can help you achieve your ideal life. Here are seven transformative lessons I've learned from life coaching.

I Aligned with My Core Values

Each individual has unique values, and one of mine is the need for creative freedom. I struggle to thrive in environments where I'm closely monitored. This freedom is paramount for my creativity, and when someone infringes upon it, I often respond with frustration or procrastination.

Time is another value I hold dearly. When others disregard my time—like arriving late to a meeting—it undermines my principles. The first step in my journey was to identify and articulate my core values.

I Created My Life Compass

Defining what you want from life is a challenging yet vital step. What purpose drives you? How can you contribute to the world?

For clarity, imagine a compass pointing toward your life’s purpose. When faced with decisions, consult this compass to ensure alignment with your goals. This exercise encourages objectivity and prioritizes what truly matters during your limited time on Earth.

I Set Clear Goals

Establishing goals fuels consistency. You can set targets for three, six, or twelve months. By reverse engineering, you can create actionable daily and weekly objectives.

For instance, if my goal is to publish my first book in a year, my six-month plan would involve completing the first draft. By breaking it down further—like writing 750 words daily during weekdays—I can maintain focus and motivation.

I Identified My Limiting Beliefs

Limiting beliefs can hinder your growth. They may have been useful at some point but can become obstacles as you evolve. For example, I grew up believing that earning money requires immense effort and time. However, I found that my natural skills could generate income more effortlessly.

With my coach's assistance, I transformed this belief into a more empowering one: "Money flows easily when I engage in what comes naturally to me." Recognizing limiting beliefs often requires external support.

I Learned Hard Work Isn’t the Only Path to Success

I've spent the last four years working long hours, often 12 to 14 a day. While this hustle has yielded results, I realized that more hours don’t necessarily equate to more success. Consider successful entrepreneurs who earn far more than those who work longer hours. Success often hinges on the value you provide rather than the time spent.

I Overcame Imposter Syndrome

I recently became aware of my struggle with imposter syndrome, the feeling of doubting one's accomplishments. Recognizing this allowed me to address it directly. While I can't say it’s completely gone, I feel more self-assured than ever. It's crucial to understand that confidence often develops through action rather than being a prerequisite for it.

I Discovered My Blind Spots

Addressing blind spots can be challenging, but vulnerability can lead to growth. For me, food was a blind spot—my love for it had gone unchecked. Through coaching, I recognized how it could influence my mood and behavior. While I’m not ready to overhaul my eating habits just yet, I understand the need for awareness and gradual change.

A Final Secret

Identifying blind spots is difficult, which is why seeking guidance is essential. Whether it's uncovering blind spots or tackling limiting beliefs, hiring a coach can be invaluable.

Where I Stand Now

I've clarified my life’s purpose: to serve others. I dedicated over 150 hours to coaching individuals without charge to gain experience. This investment led to the launch of my coaching program, and I now earn three times more than before.

I'm more relaxed, mentally at peace, and acutely aware of areas I want to develop further. I consistently align my actions with my compass to achieve my 18-month plan.

Conclusion

In sharing these insights, I hope to highlight the transformative power of coaching. To stay on track, I will continue investing in coaching sessions and programs. I’ve also created my own coaching program to help others.
