Nourishing Porridge Recipe to Uplift Your Spirits and Body

Chapter 1: The Comfort of Food
In times of sorrow, loss, and emotional turmoil, our physical and mental reserves can feel utterly depleted. The toll of such experiences often leads to fatigue, physical discomfort, and disrupted sleep patterns. While some may turn to excessive eating for a rush of endorphins and other mood-enhancing hormones, others might struggle with a lack of appetite and a sense of hopelessness.
To combat this, I’ve discovered a straightforward yet invigorating porridge recipe that has helped me revitalize my weary body and spirit. This versatile dish can be prepared in numerous ways, ranging from a simple base to a more elaborate version featuring my favorite additions like fish slices or various seafood options, including crab, prawns, scallops, fish balls, and cuttlefish, or even minced meat like pork or beef.
COOKING METHOD
Boil the rice (or any preferred grains) in a generous amount of water. You may enhance the flavor while it cooks by adding ingredients such as dried scallops, sesame oil, olive oil, salt, ground white pepper, ultra-fine sugar, chopped cilantro, minced garlic, and ginger. After about 30 minutes of boiling, incorporate your chosen seafood.
Soaking the rice beforehand can reduce cooking time, though it's not essential. Continuous stirring throughout the boiling process is crucial. As the water evaporates, replenish it with hot water until the porridge reaches a creamy consistency.
Using fish, chicken, or bone broth instead of plain water enhances the dish's flavor and provides a delightful experience for your taste buds, especially when the porridge is thicker. Once cooked, remove from heat and let it sit in a covered pot for an additional 15 minutes. Your revitalizing porridge is now ready to nourish both your body and spirit.
