Navigating Uncertainty: Reflections on the Virus in Michigan

Understanding the Current Situation
It appears that there is a growing sense of indifference towards the virus these days. Many places are resuming normal operations, and individuals without masks are moving about freely. Surprisingly, I haven’t heard reports of any confrontations with law enforcement. Recently, I spoke with a friend who owns a business and he mentioned that neither he nor any of his 150 employees have tested positive, despite their extensive interactions with the public. He attributes this to his practice of providing them with a lot of oranges for vitamin C.
But is that really effective?
The questions swirl in my mind.
Am I convinced this is merely a fabrication?
Absolutely not!
I remain steadfast in my belief that reopening society poses a significant risk if we genuinely care about preserving lives. This past weekend felt like a culmination of reckless disregard for safety.
It seems we are on the brink of witnessing a second wave of infections, yet it’s perplexing who is affected and who remains untouched.
There’s still so much we don’t understand. Personally, I am content to remain isolated until we have more concrete knowledge. I actually find solace in not having to engage with anyone; humanity has often been excessively active without justification. Nevertheless, I do long to reconnect with family someday. Thus, I have numerous questions before I consider venturing out.
Key Questions to Consider
I want clarity on several critical issues: How is the virus transmitted? How long can it survive outside a host—on surfaces or in the air? What types of surfaces are most concerning? What substances can eliminate it from surfaces or the air? Is there a specific level of exposure necessary for infection, depending on one’s immune response? What steps can we take to bolster our immune systems? What actions should we take if our immune systems react strongly? And what protocols should be followed if someone we know contracts the virus?
While I could seek answers to these queries now, I find that the information is constantly evolving. Reputable sources are being silenced, and some states are manipulating statistics to avoid public embarrassment over their handling of the situation. Consequently, it’s challenging to discern the truth at this moment.
What remains indisputable is that this virus is lethal. It relies on humans, and possibly certain animals, to propagate. By my estimation, the only reliable method to avoid it is to steer clear of all three. This economy is not worth the risk of a "maybe" outcome.
