Instant film photography has a special charm, but my initial experiences were marred by disappointment. However, I felt let down by the digital resolution—1920 x 2560 Jpegs seemed outdated. Despite this, I sensed there was more to this camera than what the reviewer suggested, prompting me to purchase one.

This experience marks my second foray into instant photography, and for the first time, I find myself genuinely enjoying it.

The key takeaway is that the Instax mini Evo is not merely a digital camera; its electronic features are intended to complement the analog experience. To illustrate this, let’s revisit my Polaroid OneStep for a moment.

When I snap a picture with the OneStep, an undeveloped print ejects from the camera, leaving me in suspense until I can see the outcome. More often than not, the result is disappointing, and attempting to retake the shot incurs additional costs with no guarantee of improvement.

This approach is both clever and efficient. The resulting 2" x 3" prints (roughly credit card-sized) are wallet-friendly and cost only 60 cents each, making them an economical choice. I purchased a box containing 60 exposures for $35. The mini Evo even features a smartphone app, enabling easy transfers of photos from my iPhone to the camera's built-in printer.

I invested $199 in the camera and $35 for film, and I’m thoroughly enjoying the experience.

Love, it seems, is indeed sweeter the second time around. As for my Polaroid ex? I plan to donate it to Goodwill, hoping the universe grants me forgiveness.
